Instruction
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or a similar-sized casserole dish.
Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the cooked pasta and set it aside.
In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
If you're using ground beef or Italian sausage, add it to the skillet with the onion and garlic. Cook the meat until it's browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat, if necessary.
Stir in the pasta sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend together.
Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, mixing it well to ensure the pasta is evenly coated.
If you're using ricotta cheese, you can add dollops of it on top of the pasta and gently swirl it through the mixture.
Transfer half of the pasta mixture into the greased baking dish. Spread it out evenly.
Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the pasta layer.
Add the remaining pasta mixture on top of the cheese layer, spreading it out evenly again.
Finish by sprinkling the rest of the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the cheese on top is melted and bubbly, and the edges of the pasta bake are lightly golden.
Once the pasta bake is done, take it out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
Garnish the pasta bake with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
Serve the delicious pasta bake hot and enjoy!
